If you were to look through the list of projects that have been awarded developer grants by the Dfinity Foundation it might surprise you that Toniq Labs is not listed. What you will find on that list is Exponent, this is the foundation of everything we build.

Wielding the Internet Computer to Rival Enjin (ENJ)

Exponent is a platform that enhances the on-chain gaming experience for both developers and players. It can be easily compared to Enjin (ENJ) on Ethereum (ETH).

There are 3 main components of Exponent:

1. Extendable Token Standard
2. Spatial
3. eDex Protocol

Let’s break down these three components and see why Exponent is so powerful and how it’s being used already.

Extendable Token Standard (EXT)

Our EXT standard provides a single uniform token standard that developers can easily add modular changes to in order to achieve the desired functionality.

For example, when Cronics first launched they did not have the ability to breed nor could wearables be removed or added, the functionality was not restricted, it simply did not exist. In order to remove and add wearables we extended the token standard. These extensions can be added and removed at the developers discretion allowing for unlimited possibilities of functionality available through the use of EXT and the modular extensions built by developers.

Spatial

Spatial is a headless wallet, meaning it is a non-custodial wallet used behind the scenes. The user does not need to know they are interacting with a blockchain to use a spatial wallet.

An example of how we use this is our NFT strategy game, Rise of the Magni (ROTM). When a user first logs into Rise of the Magni a wallet is created and within that wallet a ‘space’ is created. It doesn’t matter if the user logs in with Stoic, Plug, Google, Twitter, Discord or Email. Say a user creates an account on ROTM with their Twitter, then goes to a different game and logs in with that same Twitter account, a new space is created in the same wallet.

This effectively eliminates the classic excuse, “I don’t play blockchain games because setting up the accounts is so complicated.”

Spaces are not limited to single user login, they can be used in many different ways: You can have shared spaces and subspaces, public spaces, and private spaces. For example, if you are building a game and want to put treasure chests filled with NFTs hidden throughout, the developer can create a subspace for each chest for each user. Now, the NFTs are stored non-custodially by the player in the game, even before they find the chest.

You can also create a shared space. If there was a space that every player could access, one could simply drop an NFT item on the ground in the game and any other player could pick it up!

eDex Protocol

eDex Protocol is our exchange protocol that can be used to enable the swap, exchange, and sale of tokens within the token standard in a non-custodial manner. The non-custodial functionality of Entrepot Marketplace is enabled by eDex Protocol.

As a game developer, you might want to allow players to buy and sell NFT items between each other. With eDex Protocol the player does not need to trust the game developer to make a transaction. There is no need to send the NFT to the game developers wallet, it’s all run automatically through the exchange protocol — an atomic swap. This means that developers don’t need to worry about being classified as a marketplace, and will sleep better at night knowing that a bug in their code will not be exploited by an attacker to steal the users’ assets.

Supporting Exponent

We are working on developer tooling and SDKs — a unity kit where developers integrate with everything. An online user interface to create token canisters and mint in-game tokens. We will release different grades of tooling to meet the needs of the developer. These will help tie all the components of Exponent together for developers, saving time and making it easy to use.
